Pair of George II carved walnut side chairs

When I am hunting for antiques one of my key criteria is does the piece have a good colour and patination?

As I have discussed before colour and patination help to give personality and a sense of the underlying story behind a piece of furniture. They help to create a narrative with the past and although no guarantee they are good a indicator of authenticity.

All of the pieces below have been selected for their exceptional colour and patination.

The Hepplewhite pembroke table illustrated below is a particularly elegant example, I love the kick of the leg and the beautifully figured top has a wonderful colour.

The superb patination on the pair of George II walnut side chairs helps to bring out the figuring of the walnut and it enhances the depth of the carving which is exceptional. I love the manner in which the cabochon carving of the knee hips up into the seat rail.

The Georgian kettle stand is deceptively plain but again the mahogany has a great colour and unusually the gallery is all original, made in laminated sections of mahogany, boxwood and ebony. And importantly it is the perfect height for placing a gin beside your armchair!

Finally I wanted to highlight the reverse glass portrait of Queen Anne. This reverse glass print is a rare survivor from the late Seventeenth Century and depicts her when she was still Anne of Denmark.

I have updated the website with several new pieces this week and it can be viewed at www.reinderantiques.co.uk
