The furniture produced in the late 16th and early 17th century was predominantly oak and boldly carved with motifs that were influenced by the Italian Renaissance, such as fluted columns, swags, and brackets. It was during this period that turning became a popular technique, so furniture became more round and less linear than earlier periods, creating a more diverse range of designs.
