Queen Caroline Reverse Glass Print Smith after Kneller

£1,400

Queen Caroline

John Smith after Godfrey Kneller

A fine reverse glass print presented in a period Georgian frame.

This beautiful half length royal portrait of Queen Caroline depicts her in a low velvet bodice edged with ermine and with jewels to her front and pearl clasps to her shoulders. This lovely reverse glass is one of several states after the original portrait painted by Godfrey Kneller in 1716.

Born in Germany Caroline came with her husband (the future George II) to England in 1714. As Queen she wielded considerable power behind the throne due to her friendhship with Sir Robert Walpole, the leading politician of the early Georgian period.

This Georgian reverse glass print is on display at our London antique shop on Kensington Church Street. We ship worldwide.
