A pair of mid 19th Century ormolu and rouge marble tazzas by Victor Paillard; having handles modelled as panthers and decorated with bacchic scenes flanked by vine leaves and bunches of grapes; raised on an elegantly stepped rouge marble base. Stamped VP with a crown above
Provenance
Victor Paillard was one of the finest bronziers working in 19th Century Paris. He exhibited at many of the famous Exhibitions of the 19th Century including the Great Exhibition of 1851. His most well known commission was the French Foreign Ministry on the Quai d'Orsay, Paris.
