A Pair Of Regency Marble Topped Tables
A rare pair of Regency period carved rosewood tables with specimen marble tops; the specimen marble top set within a gadrooned border which is carved to the corners and centre of the sides with acanthus leaves, having a ribbon carved frieze and raised on an acanthus carved stem and raised on swept legs carved to the knee with acanthus leaves and terminating in lion paw feet.
Provenance
This pair of tables were specifically commissioned to display specimen marble tops brought back from the Grand Tour; the gadrooned borders are constructed around the marble which accounts for the slight difference in size between the two tables. The double knuckle carving to the lion paw feet and the acanthus carving to the corner and sides of the gadrooned borders suggest that the tables were made in Ireland.
