Georgian Sheraton Period Satinwood and Marquetry Pembroke Table
A superb George III Sheraton period satinwood veneered and marquetry inlaid pembroke table; the butterfly shaped top veneered in beautifully figured West Indian satinwood and inlaid to the centre with a patera set within an oval of tulipwood crossbanding, inlaid to the corners of the flaps with anthemions and crossbanded to the edge with tulipwood and strung in boxwood and ebony; above a frieze drawer crossbanded in tulipwood and with replaced axe head handles; raised on elegant square tapering legs which are inlaid with paterae and terminate in the original brass castors.
This pembroke table is of the finest design and quality. The West Indian satinwood for the veneers is highly figured and the quality of marquetry is only found on the most desirable pieces of Sheraton furniture. The design of the table is extremely sophisticated with the elegant butterfly shaped top and the slightly splayed angle of the tapering legs giving the table a wonderful sense of poise. The table retains an untouched colour and patination found on only the most desirable satinwood furniture.
