Pair Of Chippendale Period Painted Armchairs

This item is sold

A rare pair of Georgian Chippendale period beech armchairs with original painted decoration; the armchair's shaped oval back with a cobweb design splat and elegant downswept arms and raised on turned tapering legs united by an X stretcher. The Chippendale amrchairs have squab cushions upholstered in silk.

The wonderful cobweb design of these Chippendale armchairs relates to a design in Hepplewhite's Upholsterer's Guide and to furniture supplied by Thomas Chippendale for the Principal Bedchamber at Paxton House. Very few of these chairs have survived the passage of time and it is even rarer to find chairs which retain the original painted decoration.

Height to seat 17.75" (45cm)
