Queen Anne Walnut Highboy Chest On Stand
A handsome Queen Anne walnut veneered chest on stand or highboy; the cross grain veneered cornice above two short and three long graduated drawers; having a cross grain veneered waist moulding and five drawers to the base; raised on carved oak cabriole legs terminating in unusual scrolling feet. The highboy's oak lined drawers are all veneered in walnut, feather banded and retain their original handles. The sides of the highboy are in solid walnut and it retains a superb colour and patination.
This highboy has a full page illustration in one of the most important books of antique walnut furniture: 'English Funiture from Charles II to George II' by R. W. Symonds. R. W. Symonds was the most influential antique furniture historian of the early 20th Century and played a key role in putting together the finest collections of English furniture during this period. Symonds particularly appreciated originality, patination and bold design; features which can clearly be discerned in this walnut highboy.
