Early Georgian Fruitwood Windsor Chair

This item is sold

A rare George II cherry and elm windsor chair from the Thames Valley region; the curved top rail above a shaped splat and turned spindles and an elm seat; the chair raised on cabriole legs with turned legs to the rear united by turned H-stretcher. This windsor chair retains a good warm colour.

A pair of almost identical chairs is illustrated in 'Windsor Chairs' by Michael Harding-Hill and describes this model as a favourite. The design's simplicity is reminiscent of early Georgian hall chairs which are equally attractive.
