Regency Rosewood Sofa Table
A fine Regency period rosewood veneered and amboyna inlaid sofa table; the well figured top crossbanded in amboyna with a flap to either end above a geometrically inlaid frieze which has two drawers to one side, raised on a gilded ball stem which terminates in four elegantly swept legs inlaid with amboyna and retaining their original lion paw casters.
This antique Regency sofa table retains an excellent colour and patina. This antique table forms part of a suite of Regency furniture along with a pair of antique card tables and a centre table which is a very rare survival; suites of furniture have normally been broken up due to the vagaries of inheritance, tax and failure to remain their original home.
The use of the most exclusive woods for the antique tables' veneers show that they would have been commissioned for a highly fashionable Regency residence. Arrayed together the suite has a fantastic impact similar to the effect contemporary designers such as George Bullock sought to achieve.
Width with flaps down: 35.5" (90cm)
