A Regency Nest Of tables By Gillows, Lancaster
A rare Regency period quartetto nest of tables veneered in rosewood by Gillows of Lancaster; the well figured tops raised on ring turned end-supports terminating in splayed feet united by a curved, laminated stretcher.
Stamped T. Rose and Gillows-Lancaster.
Gillows were probably supplying nests of tables prior to Sheraton's publication of a design for a set in the Cabinet Dictionary, 1803. In August of that year Gillows supplied a 'nest of handsome rosewood tables' to Stephen Tempest of Broughton Hall, North Yorkshire.
