A Sheraton Satinwood Console Table
A George III Sheraton period satinwood veneered console table; the demi-lune top crossbanded kingwood and painted with Prince of Wales feathers and swags of flowers; raised on elegant square tapering legs which are strung in ebony and painted with harebells.
Provenance
This antique Sheraton console table is a superb example from the period. Its elegant demi-lune form and square tapering legs exemplify the Sheraton taste for clean, elegant lines. This antique table's beautifully executed paintwork shows how the taste for painted decoration grew under the influence of immigrant painters such as Kauffman, Cipriani and Zucchi during the Sheraton period. The most famous firm of Sheraton period cabinet-makers producing painted furniture was Seddon Sons and Shackleton.
