Set of 12 George III Period Mahogany Dining Chairs

This item is sold

The tablet top rail veneered in well figured Cuban mahogany above an X back centred by a patera and with down swept reeded arms; having a generous upholstered seat and raised on elegant reeded tapering legs.

These chairs are an early example of the X back design and retain much of the elegance of the Sheraton period. The chair-maker in the sweep of the arms and the tapering of the reeded legs has emphasised the vertical elements of the design and this gives the chairs an elegance typical of the Sheraton period. The chair-maker has then veneered the top rail in Cuban mahogany rather than leaving it in the solid, a sign of quality. The chairs have a sweeping rake to the back legs and a generous seat which makes them extremely comfortable.
