A Fine Chippendale Period Mahogany Secretaire Bookcase

The crisp dentil moulded cornice above 13 pane astragal glazed doors; the secretaire drawer which opens to reveal an arrangement of pigeon holes and drawers, with three further graduated drawers below and raised on shaped bracket feet. In beautifully untouched, original condition, having a good colour and patination and retaining its original swan neck handles and feet.

The quality of this bookcase suggests it was made by a leading London workshop for a discerning client. The crispness of the cornice and the shaping of the bracket feet show a fine attention to detail and the bookcase has been made out of the finest quality materials. The internal drawers have fire gilded handles, the mahogany on the table is beautifully figured and the drawers are all lined in high quality oak. All these details show this bookcase to be a fine example of Chippendale period furniture.
