Trays
Decorative trays became popular during the second half of the 18th century, and they can be found in many shapes and styles. Chippendale, Hepplewhite and Sheraton all featured trays in their pattern books, and many fine examples remain from this period made with exotic wood veneers, elaborate marquetry and carved edges. Another style popularized during the Regency were painted metal trays, typically japanned on the edge with a landscape or drinking scene in the centre. Trays can easily be made into coffee or end tables with the sympathetic addition of a bespoke stand.
