Georgian mahogany bureau bookcase

This item is sold

A handsome George III Chippendale period mahogany bureau bookcase; the crisp broken arch pediment with a dentil moulding above a pair of gothic astragal glazed doors which open to reveal fixed bookshelves; below is a fall which opens to reveal a fully fitted interior consisting of pigeon holes and drawers arranged around a central arched opening which is flanked by fluted pilasters; below are two short and three long graduated drawers which retain their original swan neck handles and raised on its original bracket feet.

This bookcase has particularly handsome proportions which are augmented by the use of carefully chosen Cuban mahogany veneers. The interior of the bureau shows its quality with mahogany lined drawers which are inlaid with chequer stringing and retain their original axe head handles and the steps of the central opening conceal a secret drawer. Importantly the bookcase retains a beautifully untouched colour and patination.
