Eighteenth Century George II Carved Mahogany Side Chair

This item is sold

An elegant Eighteenth Century George II period carved mahogany side chair; the scrolling top rail above an interlaced splat carved with acanthus leaves and harebells above a stuff over seat upholstered in green damask and raised on cabriole legs which are carved with C scrolls and acanthus leaves to the knee and terminate in generous pad feet.

The design of this chair reflects the transition into the Chippendale period. The pierced, interlaced splat is typical of the Chippendale period but the cabriole legs and compass shaped seat are typical of the George II period.
