King William III

William Faithorne Jnr (Circa 1670-1703) after Sir Godfrey Kneller (1646-1723)

A coloured reverse glass mezzotint presented in a period ebonised and gilded frame.

This shoulder length portrait of King William III depicts the sitter wearing the robes of the Order of the Garter.

William Faithorne Jnr was a mezzotint engraver working in the late Stuart Period. The majority of his work are portraits after paintings by Kneller and Lely, the most fashionable artists of the late Stuart court.

Sir Godfrey Kneller was court painter from the reign of Charles II to George I. Kneller concentrated almost exclusively on portraiture and his work is a Who's Who of the royal court. As well as his royal portraits his most famous work are the portraits of the Kit-Kat Club.
