An extremely fine reverse glass mezzotint print presented in its original frame.
Robert Monckton (1726-1782) enjoyed a distinguised military and political career. He served as General Wolfe's second-in-command during the capture of Quebec and subsequently commanded the expeditionary force that captured the island of Martinique, a major strategic victory for the British forces during the Seven Years War with France.
In 1763 Monckton was made Governor of New York Province and served as Governor until 1765.
An example of this print is in the collections of the National Portrait Gallery, Smithsonian.
