Console & Serving Tables
A console or serving table is designed to be placed against the side of the room and was used for display or to serve food. Console tables can be found from the Charles II period right through to the Regency period and their wood will usually reflect the fashionable choice of the time: oak in the Carolean period, mahogany in the Chippendale period and rosewood in the Regency. The most desirable serving tables are shallow from front to back, often with three drawers in the frieze and personally I prefer a serpentine front which gives shape and movement to a room.
