Coffee Tables
Small tables for taking tea and coffee became popular after the drinks were introduced to England in the mid-17th century. Their small size makes them easy to move around a room, and they fit nicely beside a sofa or in small breakfast nook. Since tea and coffee were considered luxury items, these tables were made from the finest woods, such as mahogany in the 18th century or rosewood in the Regency, and some are inlaid with marquetry.
