Chippendale period giltwood mirror

£22,500

A George III Chippendale mirror in the Rococo taste; the original mirror plate set within a giltwood frame composed of C and S scrolls and crisply carved with acanthus leaves and bullrushes. The original mirror plate is beautifully aged and has a lovely soft bevel.

This beautiful antique mirror exemplifies pieces designed in the Rococo style. There was a belief that designers should look to nature for inspiration and therefore there should be no straight lines in its design. The beautifully carved frame is composed of C and s scrolls carved to represent flowing acanthus leaves topped by a mythical Ho-ho bird. The mirror retains its original, charmingly aged mirror plate.
