Bronzes
We always hold a large collection of antique bronzes at the shop in a range of subjects from Canova's lions to an equestrian statue of Napoleon. Bronzes were especially popular during the Neoclassical period of the late 18th and early 19th century when collectors wanted bronze copies of classical statues for their homes to show off their knowledge of history and art. At this time, many elite Englishmen were taking the Grand Tour and bronze copies of the statues of Italy or Greece were a common souvenir of their travels.
