This month we are delighted to showcase some beautiful pieces of Regency furniture.

The Regency period saw a prolific use of Neo-classical detailing and ornament and this can be seen on all the pieces illustrated below especially the handsome Wellington chest. One of the most recognisable furniture types from the period is the convex mirror and the mirror illustrated below is a particularly large example.

A Regency period mahogany wellington chest; the four graduated drawers veneered in fiddle back mahogany flanked by scrolling pilasters which are acanthus carved to the knee and terminate in lion paw feet; raised on a plinth base.

A large Regency period carved giltwood convex mirror; the mirror plate set within an ebonised slip and a carved giltwood frame decorated with running acanthus leaves and a bead moulding surmounted by an eagle atop a rocky outcrop and with a crisply carved acanthus leaf apron below. Having a pair of acanthus arms to either side.

A rare pair of Regency period mahogany pembroke tables; the well figured tops with a flap to either side above a frieze drawer and raised on turned legs which terminate in brass casters. Retaining a good colour and patination.

These pembroke tables would make ideal end tables for a sofa or very useful bedside tables.

An unusual Regency period mahogany bowfront two door cabinet; the cabinet's top crossbanded in mahogany above a frieze drawer flanked by false drawers to either side; below are a pair of cupboard doors inlaid with a diamond of well figured Cuban mahogany  and flanked by stop fluted pilasters and false doors; the cabinet is raised on bold lion paw feet and is strung throughout in ebony. The cabinet retains an attractive faded colour and is veneered throughout in well figured Cuban mahogany.


The cabinet's crisply carved lion paw feet, stop fluted pilasters and extensive use of ebony stringing are all features typically found on pieces of neoclassical Regency and Federal furniture
