Reindeer Antiques Ltd

This month we are delighted to highlight a rare suite of Regency furniture.

Regency cabinet-makers such as George Bullock were occasionally commissioned to provide suites of furniture which would have had a powerful visual impact. Very few of these suites have remained together due to the vagaries of time.

The convex mirror we have featured is one of several convex mirrors in our inventory and is highly unusual because it bears its original label for Ackermann and Co.

We are in the process of updating our website with our latest acquisitions which can be viewed at www.reindeerantiques.co.uk

A pair of Regency period rosewood card tables.

1820

Height: 28.75" (73cm)

Depth: 17.5" (44.5cm)

Width: 35.75" (91cm)

A fine pair of Regency period rosewood veneered card table; the well figured top with amboyna crossbanding and canted corners opening to reveal a baize lined playing surface above a frieze geometrically inlaid with amboyna and a central ebony star, raised on a gilded ball stem which terminates in four swept legs inlaid with amboyna and terminating in the original lion paw casters.

This pair of  antique Regency card tables retain an excellent colour and patina. These tables form part of a suite of Regency furniture along with a sofa table and a centre table which is a very rare survival; suites of furniture have normally been broken up due to the vagaries of inheritance, tax and failure to remain their original home.

The use of the most exclusive woods for the antique tables' veneers show that they would have been commissioned for a highly fashionable Regency residence. Arrayed together the suite has a fantastic impact similar to the effect contemporary designers such as George Bullock sought to achieve
