A charming Queen Anne period walnut veneered bureau of small proportions; the quarter veneered fall cross and chevron banded opening to reveal a fully fitted interior with a writing well, having two frieze drawers which pull out to act as lopers above two short and two long graduated drawers which are chevron banded, raised on later bun feet. This bureau retains its original penny ring handles and locks and has a superb colour and patina.
This antique walnut bureau is of early construction, being made in two parts, which supports Adam Bowett’s argument that the antique bureau is a fusion of two distinct items of furniture: a writing desk and a chest of drawers.
