Provenance

This antique Sheraton console table is a superb example from the period. Its elegant demi-lune form and square tapering legs exemplify the Sheraton taste for clean, elegant lines. This antique table's beautifully executed paintwork shows how the taste for painted decoration grew under the influence of immigrant painters such as  Kauffman, Cipriani and Zucchi during the Sheraton period. The most famous firm of Sheraton period cabinet-makers producing painted furniture was Seddon Sons and Shackleton.
