A magnificent pair of late 18th Century Continental walnut and marquetry serpentine fronted commodes; the top inlaid to the centre with musical trophies (the other commode with military trophies) set within an oval laurel wreath border surrounded by sprays of flowers and a parquetry banding, crossbanded in snake wood and with a goncalo alves crossgrain moulding; below is a secretaire drawer and three graduated drawers each of which are inlaid with floral swags and retain their original ring pull handles; raised on the original bracket feet. Beautifully inlaid to the ends of each commode with a basket of flowers suspended within a laurel oval from a ribbon swag and with a spray of laurel leaves below. Possibly Mallorcan.
