A charming Queen Anne period walnut veneered bureau bookcase; the arched cornice veneered in crossgrain walnut above a mirrored door which retains its original bevelled mirror plate and opens to reveal an interior of adjustable shelves, pigeon holes and two drawers veneered in seaweed marquetry; below is a candle slide; the bureau flap quarter veneered in beautifully figured walnut and opening to reveal a fully fitted interior and a well all inlaid with marquetry; below are two short and two long drawers; raised on the original bracket feet. Inlaid throughout with featherbanding to the door, bureau flap and drawers.
This bureau bookcase is in superb untouched condition. The mirror plate, feet and handles are all original and the walnut has a beautiful warm colour and patination. This bookcase has several unusual features: the marquetry inlaid interior is very unusual and the moulding that runs around the bureau flap is almost unique.
